What is a zine?

What is Genshin RNG?
Genshin RNG is a free, SFW Genshin Impact digital zine that is driven by gacha. Contributors will use RNG to determine the characters that will be featured in their piece.

What is the theme
The theme is Music. Contributors will be tasked with creating a piece to go on one of our "playlists". The playlist they choose to create for is not subjected to RNG. Each playlist will be somewhat obscure (like a Spotify playlist), and open to interpretation. Playlists will be announced within the Discord server.Artists will be creating album covers. (Typography is not needed for these album covers, and Mod Lucy can assist with typesetting).Writers will create music themed fics, or even poetry.

How are contributors compensated?
With the sweet taste of RNG.

We are not active on tumblr, but you can find us at @bycmykae with all of Mod Lucy's other free projects.

What is RNG?
RNG, or Random Number Generator, is the system used in many games. In Genshin it is used for Wishes, item drops, and artifact stats.

How will the RNG work?
Contributors will pick from a set of characters to pull characters from. The moderators will then use a number generator to pull characters for contributors. Results will be recorded and distributed. Learn more here.

Are we allowed to collab?
Yes, you can collab with other contributors. They can be artist&artist, writer&writer, and artist&writer collabs.If you collab with someone, your pulls will be combined together. If that is too many characters, you can ask a mod to RNG them into a smaller pool.

What type of mediums are allowed?
Any type of medium is allowed as long as it is submitted at the correct dimensions — except motion/animation. The zine will be distributed as a PDF and does not support motion/animation/audio.If you wish to animate your piece after the zine is over, that is fine.

Are there content restrictions?
All zine pieces should be SFW (PG-13). This means no nudity or explicit content.AUs: Alternative Universes are okay.Shipping: We would prefer general, ship-free pieces.OOC: A small amount of OOC-ness is fine as you may have a group of characters that have never interacted in canon or a character you might not be too familiar with.

Are you really accepting everyone?
Yes, yes we are. A perk of hosting a free zine.We are aware that this is more work on our end—organizing with so many people—but we do not wish to turn away anyone who wishes to participate. In return, we ask everyone to read throughly to help us out.

Sign Up Requirements
You must be willing to submit yourself to RNG. Other than that we will be accepting everyone. Read more about sign ups here.You must sign up during the sign up period to participate and join the discord server.

Portfolio Requirements
Portfolios are only required for Cover Artists. Please provide a portfolio with 5-10 pieces of work.We are looking for an artist whose style is similar or complimentary to our zines aesthetic.For an example refer to our previous projects

Contributor Expectations
Contributors are expected to: be present in our discord group, create one piece for the zine, comply to the schedule, keep the work they make for the zine a secret until release, and respect the RNG.Zine Art Size: A5 (Vertical) - 2 Pages Max
Word Count: 500 - 3,000 Words

What timezone is this zine running in?
This zine is running in CT/CST (UTC-6:00). (Mod Lucy lives in a country that uses daylight savings time...)

Schedule

For this zine, check-ins will be optional. Contributors will be expected to pace themselves to reach the deadline.Why are there check-ins then?
It's a countdown to the final deadline. It also helps those who need more structure and prepares contributors with no zine experience.No extensions will be granted after the final deadline.This zine runs on CT — Central America.

The Process

Banners
Only playable characters will be available on banners. This means that if you can not play them in-game, they will not appear on the banner.^NEW Due to the amount of playable characters now available in Genshin Impact, we have decided to not offer every character on the banners and will instead begin curating the banners and rotating characters between projects.View our banners here: Genshin RNG Banners

Pulling Characters
The moderators will provide banners (like the Genshin Banners) for Contributors to pull from. Each banner will have a different drop rate for each character. Contributors will only be allowed a maximum 5 pulls in total.During sign up, contributors will tell us which banner they wish to pull from. Moderators will then use a generator to pull characters.Contributors are required to use all the characters they drew in your piece. Some characters can be used to help build the scene but it should be obvious on who was pulled.

Rerolling
After viewing their pulls, every contributor has one (1) reroll available that can be used to remove or replace one (1) character.If they replace a character, they must keep the new character. They will not be able to pick between the two.You can not drop and reroll.

Pitches
Once a contributor knows their character(s) and completed rerolls, they can submit a pitch and begin the creation period.

Theme
Our theme is Fortune. Contributors will need to pick one of their fortune slips as a prompt for their piece.How its is incorporated and interpenetrated into your piece is up to the creator.

FAQ

Do I have to make 5 pulls?
No. You are only required to make one (1) pull.If I don't make all 5 pulls, can I do them later after seeing my results?
No. Trust the RNG.Do I have to use all the characters I pull?
Yes. Your piece must focus on all the characters you pulled.Can I use characters I didn’t pull?
If a character is on a banner you are not free to use them. Writers may mention any character in passing.NPCs are free to use characters as background/side character to fill the scene. Timmy, Ella Musk, the Retainers, Enemies etc. They should NOT be a main focus though.If you pulled someone that has other characters associate with them, you can uses them freely. I.E Amber and Baron Bunny, Fischl and Oz, Klee and Jumpy Dumpty.Playable characters that appear after the interest check will be treated as NPCs.Do they all have to be used in the same piece?
Yes. Except if you are making icons.Can I reroll AND drop a character?
No, you can only choose one.If I reroll a character, is it possible to get the same one?
Yes. If you are trying to reroll Chongyun and get Chongyun... he simply can not bear to leave you.What if I pull the same character multiple times?

Signing Up

You must sign up during the sign up period if you wish to participate.Please keep the receipt of your responses as you may need this information later. If you did not receive one, you may have spelled your email wrong or your application did not go through properly.

Credit Name
This is the name you wish to be credited as. It may be your name or online username.
This is the name that your moderators will mostly know you by, all your zine work should be labeled with this name. We will be upset if you are not consistent with this name ):Twitter
Twitter is Wish's only platform. Because of this we will be asking everyone for their twitter account specifically. If you do not have a twitter please leave this section empty. Please provide your twitter handle as text without the @ or any other words.

We will only be collecting 1 alternative social media profile — do not try to add more.

Please check out our banner spreadsheet to see the banners you can pull from. Determine how many characters you would like to potentially draw and then let us know which banners you would like to pull from.You have a maximum of five (5) pulls and need to make minimum of one (1) pull. You will be required to include every character you pull in your drawing or fic. So it may be in your best interest not to pull all five.The number indicated is your roll number, not how many times you wish to roll on the banner.

SpotlightS

Genshin RNG will be accepting anyone who applies, because of this we will be collecting spotlight information in your applications.Spotlights are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. You are allowed to opt out of them. If you choose to opt out, you will not be able to opt back in.

(Min size: 500px by 500px) This icon will be used on your spotlight. Please put your credit name in your file name. (Put it first so they show up in alphabetical order)

Discord invitations will be sent after the sign up period is over and everything is set up. If you do not join the server in time, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating.Important: After submitting your form, you will not be able to edit any of the information you have submitted for your spotlight. Contributors will have a chance after the final deadline to update any credit information.
